Skyline Launches Massive "Acts of Kindness" Community Initiative
In February 2017, Skyline proudly celebrated International Random Act of Kindness Week by kicking off its first internal “Skyline Acts of Kindness” contest.
Skyline asked its 600+ staff across Canada: how would you give back if you had 500 dollars? Staff were given one week to answer, after which three entries would be chosen.
The results were simply amazing, with a high number of original, creative and incredibly generous ideas brought to the table. Skyline decided to award five recipients as contest winners. Each winner will receive 500 dollars and Skyline’s support to help make their “act of kindness” a reality.
Skyline Acts of Kindness Winners:
Connie, a Skyline Resident Manager at 398 Vine St. in St. Catharines, ON
"With $500, I would buy groceries for seniors in my building that may not get to eat three meals a day. Our seniors today can have limited resources and nobody to help them. When you give them something, they feel like you have given them the world."
Ted and Helen, Skyline Resident Managers at 201 Hunter St. E. in Peterborough, ON
"A woman in our building has terminal cancer and only has a few months left to live. We want to help this woman and her sons, who she will be leaving behind, create a wonderful memory through providing a fun and memorable experience together."
Bill, a Skyline Resident Manager at 150 Mary St. in Chatham, ON
"I would like to set up a "little free library" in the community to benefit as many children as possible. People can take a free book to encourage reading among kids. I was encouraged to read, and now I'm an avid reader and life learner."
Sandra, Skyline Property Manager for North Residential Region
"I would invite a local kindergarten class to come and enjoy a day crafting with our senior residents! Any spare change would be given to the class' snack program. It's important to continue to bridge the generation gap as life goes full circle."
Ashley, a Skyline Resident Manager at 5552 Heritage Drive in Niagara Falls, ON
"My team and I would buy groceries and cook dinner for all the families that are staying at the Ronald McDonald house, allowing everyone to spend more time with their loved ones during a difficult time."
